Brandalism Research

Image
Brandalism is when you are going against marketing/consumer brands or company's by re designing posters/ads with a strong message to stop consumers. The images on the Ad have a strong message to link with consumers as well as global warming troubles. The Ad that catches my attention most is "photo of a skinny white girl", this is fighting against body/racial image in ads as most women are white and skinny, this is against the body image. This has inspired me to try and show an on going problem using images related to it but in a hypocritical way.

Adbusters Research

Image
Adbusters is a website that fights consumerism brands/people using powerful posters that have a strong meaning/story for the audience. Adbuster shows consumers how bad company's are to the environment and to them. My favourite image is of a baby being breast fed and the mother having a burger painted on her boob, this is very inspiring as it shows that any bad greasy food the mother eats so does the baby, this poster is meant to open women's eyes up to being careful of what they eat when pregnant. This has inspire me to try and develop a certain logo and change it into something bad they do; Pepsi logo being turned into an obese person as there is a lot of sugar and calories in them.

Jonathan Barnbrook research

Image
Jonathan Barnbrook is a Graphic Designer who designs  adbuster posters, to spread a message about consumer brands and company's. Most of the posters are used in a humiliating way and to spread a bad message about the person/company. An example of this is Asama Binlarden as Ronald Mcdonald, this is interesting because Ronald McDonald is known to be a friendly face for children and Asama binlarden used to uses children at a young age to help fight his wars, this shows how Barnbrook find McDonalds and Asama Binlarden similar as they both get attention of children at an early age so they can control them. I find Barnbrooks work interesting as they have a strong message and are very eye catching.

Emma Watson Feminism Research

Image
Emma Watson, a well known actress, stood up in front of the U.N. to deliver a speech on the gender inequality happening all over the globe. She has recently taken a year out of acting to learn more about global gender equality, she has been criticised by many people, but she wont back down until she has justice. Herself and Jennifer Lawrence both have talked publicly about how their is a pay gap in Hollywood between the two genders. The Harry potter actress has talked openly about her treatment she has felt from being the ,"weaker gender", from being slapped on the bum to being followed home. She is sharing her voice for women who have had the same happen to her or worse, she is helping women have a voice in society. As critics mentioned Emma Watson never talked about non-white or  non-straight women. After in one of her interviews she relates to a non-white feminist author and intersectionalist expert, Bell Hooks; “Women want to be women. We just want to be treate

Mind Mapping Ideas

Image
From the 5 topics I had researched I had the difficult task of choosing only one topics luckily my teacher let me change to only choosing two. This will be difficult as I will need to get two final pieces done on time but I am very determined and have a strong connection with the topics i have chosen; Feminism and Human trafficking. After researching the topics I created a small mind map so I could write down things i think link with the word, I chose to highlight parts I thought were important to me and what i want to show in my final pieces. I have come up with 2 commercial Ideas from the graphic designers/photographers artist research. I would like to create a magazine showing what Feminism is with photo manipulation images representing feminism. For Human trafficking I thought about doing a number of photography pieces of images to link to the topic, but have each photo have a title so the audience cant make out what the photo is meant to represent, this is to link with how hum

Natalia Drepina Photography Research

Image
Natalia Drepina is a professional photographer in Russia, she is usually in her work, she is known for her expressionism being in the models, emotions, gestures and in their general facial features. A lot of her work is in a subdued colour which adds to the creepy/scary feel of the photographs. Her work can be found on Devaint Art. This has inspired me to try and add a light bit of colour but also change the level of contrast to give it a faded effect. I think this effect would work perfectly with the topic ,"Human Trafficking", as it is very serious and lots of her images could relate to trafficking/abuse.

Noell Oszvald Photography Research

Image
Noella Osvald is a Photographer who manipulates and tells a story in her images, all of her images are in black and white giving it a serious tone. She became viral after posting her images on her Flickr page. Oszvald says that she chooses only to work in black and white because she finds colour distracting from her conceptual ideas, she also wishes for viewers of her work to find their own meaning and interpretation of each image, this is why she only includes a title instead of any description. Her work is very inspiring as she has only been using a digital camera for a few years, this shows talents and determination to improve in her work, I think that Black and white images show a more serious/mysterious feel to the images. This gets the audience to think what the artwork might mean/represent. I am inspire to use this for the topic ,"Human Trafficking", as it is a very serious topic but also add no description only a simple title. I think this wi

Harper's Bazzaar Singapore Magazine Typography Research

Image
In Harper's Bazaar Singapore from February 2016. The direction of art is of Daphne Tso brings in this edition lots of typography and floral compositions. The Typography in the magazine is layed-out to be arranged around the photographs, I think this works well as it is very eye catching and leads your eyes to the text as well as the images. I think this would be an interesting layout to use in my magazine for "Feminism" as it is quite feminine and would be ironic against the text itself as feminist want equality to men and not have labels such as being "girly" where as flowers are known to be a female girly object.

Diesel Magazine- Digital Story Research

Image
The magazine Diesel launched its Issue described as, "the digital Adventure", I like how the image have been manipulated into the models faces/ bodies being dismembered and lots of pretty and bright flowers/leafs are coming out. I think the meaning behind this is the everyone has a creative outlet and to show the audience that digital technology has moved forward and can help us become more creative. I am inspired to try and use this kind of effect for my Feminism topic as women don't always feel free to express themselves, I will be designing a magazine form with information but also eye catching photo manipulation.

Instructional poster

Image
As a side project we designed an instructional poster showing how some Disobedient objects have been made. The designs are very simplistic and remind me of icon imagery as they are very linear and one colour, I wanted to recreate the bold background and layout as it would link more to the initial designs of the exhibition. I chose to re-design the "Flone" instructional poster, originally I couldn't find the poster so found instructions on how they were made and used that to help with my design. Using Illustrator I used the pen tool to trace over a stencil for a drone (Flone) this was difficult as there was a lot of different angle I had to consider as well as small boxes and circles. The most difficult part to draw was the circuit as i didn't want it to look too complicated, so it doesn't look as detailed as the rest of my drawings. For the background I made it a golden yellow colour to make the black pop of the page and to get the audiences attention, as we
